Scarves of Holding got its unofficial start in 2017. Amber and her best friend, Laura, had the chance to go on their dream trip to Ireland. While prepping for the trip, Amber was wanting to find a way to hide their passports and cash that didn’t make it obvious they were tourists. Given they were going in the fall, she knew scarves would be a good idea anyways. She saw the idea of a pocket scarf online, but she didn’t like the fabrics and colors available. So she made scarves that fit her and Laura’s personalities.
After returning home, Amber kept wearing her scarf because it turned out to be more convenient than planned. From running errands, going to fall festivals, and anytime she didn’t want to have her purse on her she wore it. When people realized it had a pocket, it blew their minds. After a while, Amber gave into requests to make and sell them to people who asked. And Scarves of Holding was born.
Amber had her first show in 2018 with the help of her husband, Marshall, and her friend Cayla. The show went better than anticipated, and the business was off. In 2019 Amber and Marshall moved from Colorado to Maryland for work. From continuing the business at local craft shows and breweries, she started selling the scarves at small conventions. The first one being Key City Steampunk held in Gettysburg, PA.
Over the years the types of scarves offered has evolved. While there has always been a pop culture, nerdy, and geeky flavor to the scarves, Amber has tried to keep the scarves accessible for everyone. From classic infinity scarves to now offering hooded versions all while offering cozy and comforting fabrics with colors and prints to fit a customer’s needs. Scarves of Holding has grown more than Amber ever dared to dream. From being a guest vendor at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Festival in 2024, to being accepted into Dragonsteel Nexus for December, 2026. Amber continues to dream bigger and is excited to see where the future is headed.
